Winnipeg man faces charges for carrying hazardous substance

A Manitoba man faces several charges after bringing an unknown hazardous material into Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre on January 19, 2013.

According to city police, the unidentified substance carried by the Winnipeg man caused irritation to the eyes and skin of health centre staff.

At least two staff members needed to be decontaminated, police said.

Hazardous Materials vehicles and fire trucks were on scene near the health centre around 9 a.m.

Police said a 20-year-old man was arrested and is facing charges of mischief endangering life, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and causing a disturbance.
