Municipal officials in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, have discovered a PCB leak in a local storm drainage system.

The PCB discharge was discovered in the course of rebuilding underground infrastructure on Hymus Boulevard, in front of a construction site.

When the leak was found on Aug. 7, 2014, authorities immediately notified the appropriate officials.

Authorities of the City of Montreal and of the City of Pointe-Claire say they are still waiting to hear what measures the province will take to ensure continuity of the control procedures.

Pointe-Claire Mayor Morris Trudeau indicated that the government, which orchestrated the safe elimination of all PCBs illegally stored on the site in 2013, is actively establishing a description of all site soils.

The report is expected in September 2014. If soils are found to be contaminated, the government says it will ensure that the premises are decontaminated, as well as any potentially affected adjacent lands.
