Industrial fluids hauler Oilfield Service Ltd. is facing three charges from the Alberta government related to a petroleum product spill that occurred on June 9, 2011.
The charges were announced December 6, 2012, but the Alberta government did not specify what the petroleum product was or how and where it was released.
On its website, the Medicine Hat-based company states that it has some 65 vehicles that haul oil, water, specialty chemicals and dangerous goods.
In contravention of the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (sections 109(2); 110(1); and 176), Oilfield Service Ltd is alleged to have released or permitted the release of a substance into the environment that may cause a significant adverse effect.
The company is also charged with failing to report the release of a substance into the environment that may cause an adverse effect, as well as improper disposal of waste.
The charges stem from a joint investigation with the City of Medicine Hat’s Fire Department, Public Services Division and Environmental Utilities into a release of a volatile and highly flammable petroleum product.
Sonic Oilfield Service Ltd. is scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on January 15, 2013.
