"Cutting Through the Greenwash"
Tuesday, April 13th, 2010 Mississauga Convention Centre
Confused about what you can and cannot say when marketing your product? What does third-party certification really mean? Which "metrics" make sense? And what about life cycle analysis?
If you want a meeting where you can have a frank and candid discussion then Cutting through the Greenwash is for you!
Following a similar format to last year's very successful event of the same name, we urge you to register soon. We sold out early last year. If you haven't already registered make sure you don't miss out this time.
Cutting through the Greenwash II will start with a session on third-party certification of sustainable forest management, chain-of-custody, and other eco-labelling standards. The session will include keynote speakers from the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), Forest Stewardship Council Canada (FSC), and Canada's Environmental Choice Program (EcoLogo). If last year's event is anything to go by, this will lead to a great and lively discussion period!
The third-party certification session will be followed by one on scorecards, rating and ranking systems, metrics, and life-cycle analysis. Leading off will be Laura Rowell, director, Sustainable Packaging with MeadWestvaco, a founding member company of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC). Laura represents MeadWestvaco on the Global Packaging Project, EUROPEN, and is co-chair of the Paperboard Packaging Council's Sustainability Task Force. She also has served as the unofficial chair of the North American paper packaging industry's Expert Panel on Sustainability. The Technical Director of Montreal-based life cycle research centre (CIRIAG) will round out this session.
Retailer and brandowner representatives will complete the program in a panel session, giving their particular perspectives on certification, scorecard, and life cycle issues. Panellists to date include representatives from Sobeys, Tim Hortons and McDonalds.
Open discussion from the floor will be encouraged.
