Candu Energy says a nuclear solution for Ontario could come from the construction of two new reactors at an Ontario Power Generation (OPG) nuclear site, as well as construction of Candu reactors outside Canada.

SNC-Lavalin’s nuclear division says has been discussing options with some 100 Ontario-based suppliers.

Candu iw working on plans for the proposed construction of two Enhanced Candu 6 (EC6) reactors at OPG’s Darlington nuclear site, about 60-kilometres east of Toronto.

Candu says construction of two reactors at the Darlington site would produce approximately 60,000 person-years of work over five years, according to a new study by Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME).

According to the same CME study, building two EC6 reactors outside Canada would create approximately $2.57 billion in economic activity in Canada.

Candu says it plans to submit its proposal for the Darlington EC6 reactors in June 2013.
