The 28th World Petrochemical Conference and Workshops are set for March 19 – 21, 2013 at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Houston.

Hosted by IHS Chemical, the conference will focus on the emerging landscape in the global petrochemical industry and the challenges and opportunities for a sustainable future in line with a North American resurgence for oil and gas production.

“An abundance of U.S. shale energy resources is rapidly changing the outlook for the global chemical marketplace,” stated Gary Adams, chief advisor at IHS Chemical, in a January 22, 2013 statement to media. “The entire supply profile as well as trade balances are poised to shift, and so the overall outlook for the global industry is much more positive and vastly different than just a few years ago.”

Stephen D. Pryor, president, ExxonMobil Chemical Company, will deliver a keynote presentation on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, entitled, “Americas: Strategies for a Sustainable Future.” He will be followed on the podium by Moayyed Al Qurtas, Ph.D., chief executive officer, Tasnee, who will address “Next Steps in Developing a Mideast Chemical Industry;” and Graeme Burnett, senior vice president, refining and chemicals, Americas, at TOTAL SA, who will discuss “Europe: Reshaping of the Industry for a Higher Value Future.”

Charlie Drevna, president, American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers, will deliver the Thursday, March 21, 2013, luncheon keynote entitled, “The Regulatory Landscape and its Implications on the Chemical Industry.” The 2013 IHS World Petrochemical Conference also will feature executive leaders from chemical companies who will join IHS experts to deliver detailed regional and global outlooks for a rapidly changing industry.

During the Wednesday session, Adams and Dave Witte, senior vice president and general manager, IHS Chemical, will deliver an overview of the petrochemical industry. They will be preceded by Nariman Behravesh, chief economist for IHS and one of the world’s most noted authorities on the global economy, who will offer his views on the world economic outlook. Bill Sanderson, IHS vice president, downstream research and consulting — energy insight, also will deliver his views regarding the world energy outlook.

Afternoon discussions will offer different views of the petrochemical industry, including regional updates. On day two, the conference will provide in-depth perspectives regarding specific chemical value chains and markets divided into four concurrent sessions focused on:

  • Olefins and derivatives
  • Aromatics and fiber intermediates
  • Chlor-alkali and derivatives
  • End-use markets/specialty products

IHS analysts will also offer their insights on the end-use markets for chemicals in the automotive, electronics, construction and consumer products sectors. The global refining outlook will also be discussed. In addition, in conjunction with the World Petrochemical Conference 2013, six full-day training workshops will be held at the Hilton of the Americas. The first five will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, and the sixth on Wednesday, March 20, 2013:

  • Introduction to Thermoplastics Workshop
  • Introduction to Monetizing Shale Gas, Natural Gas and Coal in Petrochemicals
